Our Bethesda church, school, and orphanage are located in the northwestern portion of the island of La Gonâve. La Gonâve sits just off the Haitian coastline, about 75 miles northwest of Port-au-Prince. The people on this small, mountainous island are faced with many difficulties, including rampant disease, limited drinking water, and lack of government infrastructure.
CHALLENGES
Lack of fresh drinking water
Little agriculture to produce food
High child death rate
No government education, healthcare, water-supply, or road construction
No sustainable economy; high unemploymen
Homes of stick or cinder-block with no water, electricity, or sanitary facilities
